If you have to ask what a custom recovery is, then you might want to pass on this. A custom recovery is usually mandatory for people who want to use custom ROMs on their Android devices. It gives you a lot more options on which tweaks you can insert into your device. That said TWRP – or Team Win Recovery Project to be exact – has been gaining praises on their custom recovery projects – and a new one is out specifically for the new Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S6.

As a reminder, TWRP claims that this version was tried and tested on a T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S6, and it works. This means that it should (probably) work on other variants of the said device, including the international version. You also need an unlocked bootloader for this, so AT&T and Verizon versions will have to work through that first before gaining root access and installing a new recovery.

That said, it will be wise for you to make sure you have a working backup of your phone before trying to install this, and also have in your possession a copy of the default recovery before flashing TWRP. As for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, the software for that specific variant is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6, so it’s quite possible that this version will work there. But that is not guaranteed by TWRP.
