You may not usually notice your main Google App because there are too many other things you can do on your Android phone but the app has just received a fresh new update. This isn’t a major update but you can now add Nicknames. This feature was made available to some users but it’s only now that Google is rolling out the version for everyone. If you think it’s too minor that you can ignore this particular update, maybe the Trusted Voice feature coming to the app might attract you.
The latest Google app now enables Nicknames in the Accounts & Privacy settings screen. The feature was limited to English speakers at first but it should be ready for all users. Make sure you look into this change because it will make the whole Google app experience even better.
Trusted Voice is a a Smart Lock feature that came with the Google Play Services 7.0 when the latter was released last March. It was quickly removed but it might come back with this latest Google App update. We’re not sure how it really worked because there was no mention how to use it but we’re expecting to learn more about this anytime soon. We’re guessing it has something to do with Google Now or voice commands.
With the app update, we could also see a new feature called ‘Seamless Hotword’. It doesn’t seem final yet but there were some related string names on the code: Seamless Hotword and Internal Only. We don’t know what these two mean but we have an idea that Google has more in store for us with the app.
If you can’t want for Google to push the update to your mobile device, feel free to just download the APK and install it on your own. It’s not too complicated but it requires some coding skills and a bit of knowledge.
Download Google App from the Google Play Store or download the APK.
Thrusted voice? That sounds like an interesting feature…
I can guess what a trusted voice might do, although I was curious what a thrusted voice might be.
