And on we go with the virtual reality (VR) bandwagon, with moar and moar (sorry, couldn’t help it) outfits jumping on and giving the world what it thinks should be the best VR headset. CMOAR (“see more”, geddit?) just got their VR headset accepted at Kickstarter and at time of writing, it’s fully crowd-funded. Let’s see what they got.

The CMOAR VR headset is designed as a smartphone-powered modular VR headset – like the Gear VR and all the other VR headsets that use your phone’s screen as the main display. The CMOAR VR headset will include external sensors and support for both Android and iOS smartphones. The modular design is pretty nifty, with the headset able to accommodate phones ranging from 4-inch screens to as big as 5.7-inch phablets. The project even has a design to take in the extra-large Apple iPhone 6 Plus device.

Users can then install compatible VR and AR (augmented reality) apps, including the software developed by CMOAR itself, to take advantage of the VR/AR experience. The company has even designed a unique gaming controller for the kit, which is available for USD$99.00 via the Kickstarter campaign. Of course, there is a whole range of options for those who want to support the project.

Lastly, and quite innovatively, CMOAR has also revealed two add-on screens (see video above), a 1080p full HD one and one a 2560×1440 2K resolution one, that connect to PCs and via an HDMI cord for high-quality video streaming into the headset. Pretty cool, right? CMOAR expects to ship its first units in June of 2015. The Kickstarter campaign closes in 3 days, so get yourself there (via the source link below) if you’re interested.

This is a crowdfunded project, and as such may not deliver what its creators initially promise. Most crowdfunding sites, like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, have policies about what happens to your money if the project fails to deliver on its goals, but choosing to back a project is inevitably a risk. Android Community’s reporting on crowdfunded projects should in no way be seen as an endorsement, unless specifically stated, and we recommend closely examining the terms and conditions to understand your individual rights as a backer before making a pledge.
