If you want a smartphone, but need something that can withstand the rigors of working out in the elements everyday or a very active outdoor lifestyle, Samsung has added a new device to its Xcover line. The new device is called the Xcover 3 and the smartphone meets MIL-STD 810G.
Meeting that military standard means that the Xcover 3 smartphone can survive falls up to 1.2 meters and has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Samsung says the Xcover 3 can survive being submerged in water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter.
The Xcover 3 has physical keys for home, multitasking, and back buttons so it can be used with gloves easily. An Xcover key can also be used to turn on the flashlight or double tapped to open the camera. Samsung’s Xcover 3 weighs in at 154g and is 9.95mm thick. It runs Android 4.4 out of the box and will run Android 5.0.
Under its rugged skin, the smartphone supports LTE Band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 20. The smartphone has a 4.5-inch WVGA screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 2200 mAh battery, 8GB of RAM, and a microSD card slot for storage expansion. The main camera is a 5MP unit with a 2MP unit on the front. GPS, NFC, and Samsung Knox are also fitted to the device. The Xcover 3 is expected to sell for about 275 euro.
