The Android 2.1 update for Sony Ericsson X8 users was just released last month. Because it’s not the most current operating system, it leaves a great desire to be rooted. However, many users are not familiar with the rooting process.

If you are new to rooting, or just want a simple step-by-step guide, XDA forum member mohakrastogi has put together the guide for you.

The guide is written with the unexperienced in mind. Using simple and detailed steps, along with answering any questions that you might have.

The guide is very detailed so it’s best you check it out under the original XDA thread.

  1. Newbie question:

Rooting it means i will be able to upgrade it to andorid 2.2+ even if sony ericsson doesn’t support/update it?

If so, which are the disadvantages? may i loose some functionality by rooting + having custom ROM’s? I’m mostly concerned about hardware (standard buttons, volume rocker and camera shutter) will they still work the same…?

what i really want/need is the ability to move apps to the SD since x8 only has 128 MB internal memory for that! Can i get that with a custom rom or anything?

i am completely new with Android and the whole rooting process, custom ROMs, etc, so i appreciate any help. [helpful links are very welcome!]

    thanks.

  2. Hi Diego.

The root is just a function that will able to acess the system files that are hidden by Google),
With this you can install apps from a 3rd party (that means without using market).
Rooting your phone will not remove any function.

    Search on this forum:

It’s the best forum about Android (in my opinion).
