You have some friends over at your new pad, and you’re all just sitting around, drinking wine, chilling to your music, when suddenly, an annoying ad interrupts everyone’s conversation. Oopps, now everyone knows that you’re using the free version of Pandora. While it’s not really something to be embarrassed about (we’re pretty sure most of your guests probably use free music streaming too), it does put a bit of a damper on your party when ads keep popping out every once in a while.
If you think that subscribing to the paid service called Pandora One is a bit too excessive if you only need ad-free music every once in a while, the folks at Pandora will soon be offering you an alternative. At their recent investor meeting, Pandora’s Chief Product Officer, Chris Philips, revealed that they will be releasing later this year a day pass that will let users enjoy ad-free music for 24 hours.
Details for this new feature are still up in the air at this point. They’re still looking at whether to have just a day pass or to offer a three-day ad-free period. The pass will not require users to get a monthly subscription once it expires, but they can just revert to their free service (with ads of course) again. Monthly subscription to Pandora One is currently priced at $4.99 and aside from the ad-free experience, they also get more chances to skip songs, although it is not unlimited.
While a Pandora spokesperson said that other details, particularly pricing, have not been ironed out yet, the example screen during the talk at the investors meeting showed a tentative price of $0.99. Let’s hope it’s around that price range, as it seems pretty reasonable price to pay for ad-free listening to your favorite playlists from Pandora.
