At the moment, we do not know of any way to make your Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) run on Android, which is a sad, sad thing. But we found the next best thing – at least get it looking like it’s on Android! So much fun, right? Well, it is the best we can do right now, guys, so just run with it.
XDA member “Joel16” is serious about putting out a custom firmware which at least mimics Android 5.0 Lollipop’s Material Design look and feel, while working well at what a PSP should be good at – that is, for playing games. The project is on version 5.0 right now, which is designated as stable enough for usage, but might not be good for daily use.
What you will notice immediately is that the firmware is a sort of app launcher for your PSP – it includes a home screen, an app drawer, a lockscreen, notification sliders, quick settings toggles, and more. It feels and looks like Android, guys. Early builds of the firmware made it look like CyanogenMod’s CM11. This week the developer updated the firmware to the current one that now looks like Android Lollipop.
Pretty cool, and it is nice that the developer is fully committed to making the project work. He must really love Android, if he wants to play his PlayStation Portable and still want to see some sort of Android skin and theme.
