Sony booted the Vaio brand out from under the Sony umbrella a while back now. We have known for a while that Vaio was working on a new Android smartphone and that smartphone is expected to debut this month. Ahead of that official debut, which will happen in Japan first, the device needed to get the required certifications to come to market.

Word is that the Vaio smartphone has received the certs it needs in Japan and is now ready to come to market. Along with those certifications, Vaio is now showing off the retail packaging for the smartphone as well.

I’m the first to admit, I really don’t care what the box looks like. In this case, the box is matte black and has two levels on the inside. We still don’t have the official feature list for the Vaio smartphone, but we have some rumored hardware.

The device is tipped to carry the VA-10J model and have a 5-inch 720p display. It is also tipped to get a Snapdragon 410 processor, 13MP camera on the back, and 5MP camera on the front. The processor should be paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Android Lollipop is said to be the OS right out of the box. Since the hardware isn’t exactly high-end, we are hoping the price won’t be either.
