Anytime you want to change the hue or color tone of your display either for convenience purposes or if you just want to impress your friends – and you can basically be sure that stock Android will not allow you to do this – time to install Chainfire’s “CF.lumen” app. This was once a “root only” app, but now an update has brought a workaround for non-root devices.
So what happens now if you load CF.lumen on an unrooted device? For starters, it will inform you that it will be using a new rootless driver. This will workaround the root access issue by changing the screen via an overlay. That is the only thing that CF.lumen and other apps of this sort can do without root access. We have to tell you that the driver for rooted devices gives you a much better image quality, though. All told, the overlay process is still better than nothing, right?
The bonus addition – which should make you all happy – is that Chainfire has added the “Freeload” option that the developer has been putting on his apps recently. This basically gives you all the “pro version only” features for free. Yes. For real.
No telling when Chainfire will take that back, of course. So when he does (if he does), you will have to pay for the app anyways. Check out the Google Play Store to download this app.
