Marvel is once again coming out with a new brawling mobile game, but it will be doing things quite differently this time. It has found a new game developer partner in DeNA and this time, you won’t be bashing heads alone. Marvel Mighty Heroes is primarily a cooperative multiplayer game, though there is said to be a single player campaign also. And unlike Kabam’s Contest of Champions, this DeNA game features a distinct artistic style that may not appeal to every true believers.
Big heads! Big heads! That will probably be the most distinct feature of this game. We’ve seen games of “chibi” (kid-like anime style) Marvel superheroes before, but very few have been rendered in full 3D glory. With big heads. If you can manage to stomach that tiny detail, Marvel Might Heroes promises a gaming experience like no other. At least on paper.
You get to team up with three of your friends, or complete strangers to battle the bad guys. Who the bad guys are, however, is still unknown. Because you can choose from a roster of heroes and villains, it isn’t clear cut who the enemy really is. At least for now. Co-op battles happen in real time, so no need to wait for others or AIs to take their turn. There is supposedly also a single-player story to follow and weekly bouts to prove your worth. And, of course, leaderboards.
As for the roster, there isn’t much info on that yet beyond what’s being teased on the website. You have Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Spiderman, Star Lord, Hulk, She-Hulk, Black Widow, Gamora, Daredevil, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), Spider-man, Rocket Raccoon, and more. No hints yet on when the game will arrive but pre-registrations are already open. Made by DeNA, expect a freemium business model, meaning lots and lots of IAPs.
