This is a testament to how well Samsung built the Galaxy S3, that it is still alive and kicking – and custom Lollipop ROMs are still being built for it today. We have to remember that the Samsung Galaxy S3 was once king of the smartphone world, and a lot of units are still being used even to this day. With this Paranoid Android build, the Galaxy S3 can start experiencing some Lollipop goodness – with a few bugs here and there.
Paranoid Android is one of the more famous custom ROM names out there, using the Android Open Source Project framework (AOSP) as basis for putting out aftermarket software for Android devices. Like CyanogenMod, it already has a build based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The only question was if someone was going to appropriate it for an older device like the Galaxy S3.
Up stepped XDA member “Gokulbalram”, making an alpha build of Paranoid Android based on Android 5.0.2 for the Galaxy S3. The ROM is fairly new, and there is one bug – that is that the home button does not wake the device up. That is a very minor issue and would probably not stop you from using the device daily. Most feedback on the official thread seems to approve of the smoothness of the build.
If you want to go ahead and try it on your venerable Samsung Galaxy S3, head on over to the official XDA thread (see source link below). Remember to make backups, ok?
