Dropbox has become an essential tool for people who mostly work from their mobile offices (aka their smartphone or laptop) as it allows you the freedom to access files that you normally would have to get from your desktop or laptop previously. Every new update to the cloud service is awaited by users, and this new one, while not a major update, can be pretty useful, especially if you’re in a hurry.
You can now open shared links from anywhere on your mobile devices, whether it’s from an email or a private or instant message, and you can open it directly to your Dropbox app. This also means that you get to have rich previews of your documents and pictures and this also becomes an easier way of saving the file directly to the Dropbox app from either the browser or whatever app you’re using to receive the link.
If the file is already in your Dropbox, then you will be directed to it and you can either move it, rename it, or favorite it so you can access it even when you’re offline. If the Dropbox link you’re sent is a Microsoft Office document, then you can edit it directly if you have the Office apps already installed on your smartphone or tablet. It used to be that when you clicked on a Dropbox link, it would still lead to the cloud service’s mobile browser, but now, it’s much simpler and quicker, which is a basic feature they should have worked on before. But better late than never eh?
The update is still rolling out to Android devices, so if you don’t see it yet, just be patient a bit more. And if you haven’t yet discovered the magic of having Dropbox on your mobile device, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
