Curved is the new sexy. Well, at least, that’s what LG would like you to think as they officially launched the LG G Flex 2 in Singapore. And just in time for Valentine’s Day, the latest iteration of the OEM’s flexible smartphone comes in eye-catching red, although it will definitely not make it to your hands by February 14, even if you live in Asia. Pre-orders will start later this month, but no word yet on whether it will be available elsewhere by that time as well.
To refresh your memory, the LG G Flex 2 is the second generation of the bendy-looking (not related to the bendgate issue of a few months ago) smartphone that is more than just its unique look. The 5.5-inch device with the 1080p display is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor and comes with either a 2GB or 3GB RAM, depending on which region it comes from. The main camera has 13 megapixels, laser autofocus and a dual flash while the front-facing camera has just 2.1 megapixels, so nothing that special there.
But of course the main attraction to the smartphone is its sleek, curved form that is not just for aesthetic purposes but was created to fit into your hand ergonomically and also give you a better grip on your device. It also has a “self-healing technology” that guarantees your device will be scratch-free because it will supposedly make them disappear in under 10 seconds.
Pre-orders for the device in Singapore will start by February 27 and it will be available in the market by March 14. It will cost you about 998 Singapore dollars which is roughly USD $800 and the two color variants are Platinum Silver and the aforementioned Flamenco Red. There is no official word yet on when it will be available in other regions including the US.
