If you still doubt the power of the yellow sponge and his band of merry underwater friends, consider this: the latest Spongebob movie, Sponge Out of Water dethroned American Sniper in the US box-office (and you know, the Bradley Cooper movie is a huge hit). Of course along with a hit movie comes a game to prolong the kids’ (and adults too!) enjoyment of the franchise. Get ready for Spongebob: Sponge on the Run, now available for Android devices.
The game is based on the movie, and is a race to the finish between the titular character and his arch-rival Plankton as they try to find the lost formula to the successful Krabby Patty. You’ll let Spongebob run, fly, float in a bubble and Plankton will be jumping around as well as they try to outdo each other and beat the obstacles along the way. The game also has hilarious banter between the two, featuring animation and dialogue created just for the game. Fans of the animated series will also recognize such iconic locations as Bikini Bottom, Apocalyptic Bikini Bottom, and an actual beach (which is where they end up in the movie).
You can also customize Spongebob and make him wear various costumes, and if you get a power-up that turns you into Super Spongebob, you get the ability to knock all obstacles out of your path. Aside from the race between the two, there are also other adventures “off the beaten path” like floating Spongebob in a bubble, or jumping Plankton through Spongebob’s imagination. If you’re familiar with the weird sometimes surreal world of Spongebob, then this wouldn’t sound strange to you.
You can buy Spongebob: Sponge on the Run from the Google Play Store for only $3.99. There are also several in-app purchases so if you’re letting kids play the game on your device, make sure you’ve turned off the auto-purchase option.
$3.99 + IAPs + it’s a Subway Surfer clone.
Nice.
