While other flagship devices have been enjoying their updated devices running on Android 5.0 Lollipop, some still have not benefited from Google’s gradual roll-out of their latest major update. Owners of Sony’s Xperia Z2 and Z3 are among those who are waiting, but it looks like the wait is almost over, as Sony is expected to bring the Lollipop magic sometime this month, at least for its flagship device, and maybe the older one as well. Well, that is, if you’re living in Australia.

A document from Vodafone Australia shows the schedules and current status of various devices under its carrier, and listed under the Xperia Z2 and Z3, it says that they are still waiting for software testing, but this is expected in February. The carrier has not yet received the final build from Google for Android 5.0 and so they cannot yet start testing it for their devices.

Based on this “schedule”, we can probably expect the update to reach the branded carrier handsets sometime in March. The generic smartphones, or those that are not under any carrier, may be able to receive the Lollipop roll-out a little earlier than that, since the stock firmware won’t go through carrier testing anymore.

The other devices shown in the document include the HTC One M8, which has already been seeding in India and some European countries. The Huwaei WiFi Cube 4G says that testing is already in progress, but of course, since it’s not a smartphone, it won’t be receiving a Lollipop update.

  1. I’ve been getting strange text messages from a four digit number, and when I Googled it, it indicated that TMobile would send texts like this out when testing a software roll out. I hope that means Lollipop is on it’s way in the next few weeks.
