RPG fans on Android will probably be delighted to know that the rather intriguing PC game Evoland has now landed on Android shores. Though it comes with a slightly higher price tag than most Android games, it might very well be worth grabbing it, especially if you’re a gamer with a penchant for history or go way, way back. That’s because Evoland also takes you way way back in time as well, starting off with the simplistic graphics of ye ol’ 2D games of yore.
Instead of simply going through an adventure of your own, Evoland also takes you through the history of action/adventure RPGs. Instead of just starting with simple items, you also start with simple graphics, sounds, and gameplay. Your quest isn’t just to gain the most glorious loot but also to find the new technologies that will graduate you from monochrome 2D to full 3D in all its glory.
Fans of RPGs from all ages and consoles will all find something to cherish here. From the monochrome displays of Game Boy titles, to the flat but colorful 2D world of Zelda, to the menu-based turn-based combat of Final Fantasy, all the way up to the 3D real-action gameplay of Diablo. It’s like a trip down memory lane, RPG style. You can even revisit the starting areas in full 3D once you’ve gained the necessary items to turn the world from flat to full.
Evoland does cost $4.99 on Google Play Store, but that’s the full game already. No hidden surprises, no unnecessary perks. Just like the good old days.
