You’ve probably had your fill of tower defense games, probably as much as you’ve grown sick of flying (or flapping) birds and crushing sweets, But sometimes, someone comes along and turns the genre on its head to offer something quite new. The Anomaly series did this by turning the tables in its “reverse tower defense” titles. Now Sleep Attack is trying to make a difference as well, this time by letting you actually control the routes that your enemies will take.

Make no mistake, it isn’t as simple as it sounds. In essence, you’ll be exercising your multi-tasking skills. In addition to strategically setting up your defenses and upgrading your towers, you also have to mind the direction of the incoming hordes of nightmare baddies. Swiping will rotate the maps so that your enemies can take a different path as they crawl, stroll, or run towards the center, where your sleeping body lies unprotected. It’s like playing spin the bottle, except you’re spinning the ground. But as enemies can come from multiple directions, you can expect mayhem to ensue.

Add that to the fact that enemies have personalities and powers of their own, and you’ve got a recipe for madness. There are monster bosses too. You aren’t exactly defenseless, of course, as you have in your arsenal 9 types of towers, each with their own special lethal moves, but also with character flaws. And, when you’re really in a pinch, you can cast a powerful spell as a last ditch effort.

Fascinating as that may sound, Sleep Attack TD does cost $3.99 on Google Play Store. The game does use quality art assets and graphics spread over 6 dreamworlds. In fact, the quality is so high that the game requires devices with 1 GB of RAM, which is pretty unusual for a casual mobile game.
