Mobile game developer GAMEVIL has come out with another action RPG title, this time branching off from its previous game Dark Avenger. But fret not if you haven’t played the prequel, as you can verily enjoy (or not) this game on its own. Set in an equally dark and brutal world, Darkness Reborn puts the fate of the world in your hands yet again, but you don’t have to do it alone. Branded as an MORPG, you can enlist the help of allies in your adventures, or pit your strength against them in the arena.

Like most mobile RPG games in the market, the plot is more often than not a thin excuse to bash up monsters and things. Some do have a bit more substance, though it remains to be seen if Darkness Reborn is one of those. That said, it has probably one of the more tragic backstories. An otherwise virtuous and brave knight fails to defeat an evil dragon and is instead damned to be the Cursed Knight and become the very monster he feared.

For your hero, you get to pick between a Warrior, who looks like a cast from The 300, and a kunoichi, a.k.a. a female ninja. There’s a demon hunter class placeholder in there as well, but it is marked as coming soon. The game offers both multiplayer and single player content and you are free to choose between the two, but logging into the game automatically lands you in a multiplayer world. And as mentioned, other players can be your allies in your dungeoneering and raiding, or your rivals in 3v3 contests.

Darkness Reborn is, like many GAMEVIL titles, free to download and play. But as always, the in-app purchase monster rears its head, tempting gamers with items ranging from $0.99 to $99. So do be aware what you are getting into before you take the plunge.

  1. I’m willing to spend money to pay for the app upfront and not worry about IAPs. IAPs are nothing but money-grubbing vices for the devs and company’s that release apps this way. Sad part is, there are people out there willing to put forth $99 on these things. I mean, come on, $99? Really? If that isn’t an insult towards us, then I don’t know what it is. I wouldn’t even pay that much for a PC title.
