Just as we heard of impressive sales of Android compared to Windows Phone 7, we are now hearing our favorite OS is poised to pass both Apple’s iOS and Nokia Symbian OS in Europe. IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo told Bloomberg that Android will likely pass the two competitors sometime next year.
His reasoning behind the expectation is that the iPhone is in decline. He told Bloomberg:
“The iPhone was last year’s hot device and now people are looking for something different, the new Samsung Galaxy S offers a similar experience at a lower price”
However, in a recent survey of smartphone buyers, 34-percent of users who are not on AT&T would have preferred to buy the iPhone. So it’s currently unknown what will happen to Android growth if the iPhone hits Verizon or other carriers, but with it already in the lead, it’s expected to keep it’s position for a long time.

Galaxy S was also hot around the same time as the new iphone… Really Motorola’s DROID release’s after the Galaxy S series have been keeping the Android push going
