Most of the wearables that are on the market today get their data connectivity from a paired smartphone. In some instances, having to pair your smartphone to the smartwatch and keep the smartphone with you can be a pain. One of those instances is when you are running or are very active.
Timex has some wearables that have been announced that don’t require a smartphone for connectivity. That means you will need a data plan specifically for these watches and AT&T has announced that it will be the data carrier for Timex.
The Timex Ironman One GPS+ wearable will hit AT&T stores this fall and is on the Timex website for pre-order now. No matter where you buy the wearable, the first year of data service is included with the purchase.
After that first year of free service, the data plan will set you back $40 per year. AT&T will also allow owners of the device to add it to an existing Mobile Share account in the future. So far, it’s unclear exactly what data limits AT&T will impose on the Timex devices.
