Over across the pond, Google and ASUS are doing a promotion to entice would-be buyers of a Nexus 7 2013 tablet. Anyone in the UK who purchases the 16 GB variant of that device will earn ₤50 worth of credits in Google Play Store.
The process is quite simple. Buy a 16 GB ASUS Nexus 7, the ASUS-1A007A model to be very precise, before the promo ends on June 1 this year. Once done, you can claim your Google Play Store credits, but you have to do so within 30 days from the purchase of the device, otherwise it becomes forfeit. The credit, however, will not expire until May 2015, so you don’t have to spend it immediately, though you most likely will. Of course, this offer is only available for residents of the UK buying the device from any UK-based retailer, reseller or e-store. Carrier’s don’t seem to be included.
The 2013 Nexus 7 happens to still be one of the best 7-inch tablets around. The specs might sound a bit dated, but it is still competitive, especially when you consider the price tag. For $229, you get a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, and a beautiful 7-inch 1920×1200 screen. It also helps that you get Google’s vanilla Android flavor on it, with promises of future updates, more or less.
So if you’re in the UK and itching to get your hands on a decent sized tablet, this might be a good time to try it out, unless you’re waiting for the rumored Nexus 8 tablet by HTC. If you do go for the promo, remember that only the 16 GB WiFi-only variant is qualified for this event.

Is this offer def not available for those who bought the 32gb version during the qualifying period? Seems a little unfair if not. I bought mine on 5 May and would have qualified had I opted for the 16gb version. I only decided to spend more because I knew the Nexus 7 doesn’t do expandable memory. Grr…curse my faulty crystal ball 😉
