It seems like the day of reckoning will soon be upon us, or rather upon Nokia. According to a leaked letter from Nokia to its customers, the Finnish company is expecting that the sale of its Devices & Services business will finally push through before the month is over, giving Microsoft free reign over the former mobile giant.

There have been a few changes to the deal that have been made along the way, some of which are concessions in order to get the ball rolling. Nokia’s Korean manufacturing facility is no longer part of the deal, but the Chinese Chief Technology Office and its 21 employees will now be assimilated into the Redmond-based company.

One new detail that has come out concerns Nokia’s online presence. Apparently, Microsoft will be taking over nokia.com and its social media accounts but only for a year. This is supposedly for the benefit of both companies and their customers as they transition the business and minds over to the new regime. It is said that Nokia may decide to reacquire those pieces of its public face after that one-year period is over, but it remains to be seen what will be left of Nokia by then.

The biggest question now for the Android community is what will happen to Nokia’s excursion into Android. The Nokia X and Nokia XL were, presumably, executed under Nokia’s Devices and Services business, which will soon be under Microsoft’s direct purview. While there is a very, very slim possibility that Microsoft will give it another, more half-hearted go, we might have just already witnessed Nokia’s first and last Android devices.
