In what was not an April Fools Day joke, T-Mobile seems to have angered quite a few users when they announced the end of employer rate plan discounts. This change was set to go into effect on April 1st, but following a statement from CMO Mike Sievert, it seems there will be some changes to that original announcement.
Sievert, by way of Twitter, made it clear that current customers will be able to keep their current corporate employee discount. T-Mobile is expected to make more of an official announcement today. Rather simply though, customers with a current discount will be grandfathered in.
Certainly good news for those who would have been affected. Still, we cannot help but think this could have all been avoided had T-Mobile opted to go down this path from the beginning. In the original announcement, this change was being made in an effort to simplify wireless for everyone involved.
Seems while it may have simplified things, it may have also been increasing the monthly rate for some. Otherwise, while this is not going to be an issue for current customers, the overall change still went into effect as of yesterday.
That means new customers will not be able to take advantage of the employer rate plan discounts and will instead need to look towards the $25 T-Mobile Reward Card they will get each time they upgrade their device.

that’s better – I was REALLY pissed about that.
