T-Mobile is celebrating the one-year anniversary of their LTE rollout. And naturally, this celebration includes news of some expansion. The carrier is touting how they have voice and data coverage available for 96 percent of the US. While that number doesn’t reflect the percentage of available LTE coverage, it will factor in as T-Mobile moves forward.
Details coming from a recently issued press release mention how the carrier has plans to launch a program that will have them upgrading the 2G/EDGE network with 4G LTE. T-Mobile expects to have 50 percent of the upgrades done in 2014, and have also said the upgrades should be “substantially complete by the middle of next year.”
“The upgrade will provide customers who currently experience 2G/EDGE coverage new access to 4G LTE, and many already covered by 4G LTE will enjoy access to 4G LTE in even more places. In addition, T-Mobile plans to begin deploying 4G LTE this year in the new 700 MHz A-Block spectrum the company is in the process of acquiring.”
Along with news of the upcoming 4G LTE expansion plans, T-Mobile also took some time to highlight the growth they saw over the course of the previous year. At present the T-Mobile 4G LTE coverage is available for 210 million people across 273 metro areas. The rollout was described as coming at an “unprecedented pace.”
The carrier is also looking towards some data from Ookla’s Speedtest.net mobile app, which has seen more than 6.5 million test in 2014. T-Mobile points at how based “millions of speed tests by real customers” they have the “fastest nationwide 4G LTE network.” Otherwise, T-Mobile will also be launching a new ad campaign aimed at “misleading competitive claims” coming from competitors. In this case, the first commercial from this campaign, aimed at Verizon Wireless, can be seen below.
