Instagram has announced the latest Android app update. This one is arriving as version 5.1, and should be immediately noticeable due to the new look. Instagram for Android now has a flat design. This is described as being a “cleaner” design, however the folks at Instagram are also touting the new speed.
To that point, this latest update is said to have made the app faster, and more responsive. The profile screen is touted as loading twice as fast, and the app size has also been cut. That last bit also has an effect on the speed, and this time, means “increased speed throughout” the app.
In summary, the Instagram app should be faster, and is now sporting a new look. The folks at Instagram also acknowledged the wide variety of Android devices these days. Here they mentioned how they now support “thousands of different Android devices of all shapes and sizes.” This is also dealt with in this latest update.
We’ve simplified our visuals throughout our app, making use of valuable screen space for small devices and feature phones and rearranging our design to keep buttons within easy reach as you navigate the app on a larger device.
Instagram v5.1 can be found in the Google Play Store. Or alternatively, those with Instagram already installed should launch the Play Store and check the “My apps” section for the update.
That being said, while this was the v5.1 update, when looking back we remember the v5.0 update as the one that added Instagram Direct for image and video messaging. That update arrived back in mid-December 2013.
