After just revealing its jack-of-all-trades Multi-Console box last month, Xtreamer is once again outing a new Android-powered device designed to connect to your TV. This time, however, the Xtreamer SideWinder4 is more interested in a focused watching experience than playing games.

Compared to the Xtreamer Multi-Console, the SideWinder4’s hardware is just a notch lower. It runs on a 1.5 GHz dual-core AMLOGIC CPU, has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. In contrast, the Multi-Core is powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core chip with twice the RAM and storage. Both devices run a custom Android 4.2.2 ROM but also has access to Google Play and all that it has to offer.

While the SideWinder4 won’t be leaving skid marks in gaming, it tries to leave traces when it comes to entertainment. Aside from the usual TV connections, like DVBT/DVBT2, you also get support for a number of wireless control and streaming options, like AirPlay for Apple’s devices and CheapCast for Android. The box also has XBMC plugins available for streaming videos from the Internet. Users can opt to use the remote control bundled with the SideWinder4 to navigate through the menus or, alternatively, install AirDroid to control the box via a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Due to lower specs and a more dedicated purpose, the Xtreamer SideWinder4 also has a lower price tag compared to the Multi-Console. This set-top box will be priced at 79 euros, or around $110, when it launches on March 3.

  1. The Xtreamer MC cannot power down any USB connected device.
You have to manually unplug an external hard disk or flash drive when you power off the Xmc or it will keep spinning. Tech support have no solution for this.
Hopefully this will not be the case with the Sidewinder4.
