NBC Universal has recently updated the app that will allow you to stay current with the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games — even if you are not able to be sitting in front of your television. The app is called NBC Olympics Highlights and currently available by way of the Google Play Store. The app is available for free, but unfortunately does have some drawbacks.
The app will not have any live video coverage. Instead, those using the app will be offered video highlights. There will also be images coming out of the games. Basically, this app should be a good way to keep up with the highlights, as well as the results, medal counts and schedules. And aside from not offering any live video, there is also no shortage of in-app advertisements.
The other issue here is in terms of where the app will be available. Simply put, this one is US only. But on the positive side, those using the app in the US will be able to stream over WiFi, LTE or 3G. Of course, those streaming video over a cellular connection should pay attention to their data limits.
Shifting way from the NBC Olympics Highlights and we also find another app that was recently updated by NBC. The other is the Sports Live Extra app and that one is promising the ability to “watch every event LIVE at the Sochi Olympics.” Further details for the NBC Sports Live Extra app include how the Olympics coverage means more than 1,000 hours to include all 15 sports, and awarding of all 98 medal events.
