Google has unveiled several apps for Android over the last months like Maps, Search, and Gmail. The company is now set to launch a new stand-alone app for YouTube. There is a bit of a catch for users of anything but the latest version of Android though.
The new YouTube app supports only Android 2.2 and up. There are many Android users out there today that have devices that haven’t yet been offered an Android 2.2 update. The reason for the stand-alone app is apparently to allow Google to apply updates without having to wait for updates that work with other versions of the OS.
The new app will support some cool features. It will allow the viewer to watch in portrait or landscape modes, get channel info, like videos, and share videos on Buzz, Facebook, and Twitter. As long as you have Froyo, you can get the app now.
