Android gaming, and consequently Android consoles, is on the rise, we said. But it seems that there are some who are trying to squeeze out all that they can from an Android device and be almost everything to everybody. One such example is the Xtreamer Multi-Console which is a gaming console, media hub, and mini PC all rolled into one convenient box.
The Xtreamer Multi-Console is, underneath all the marketing speak, basically an Android device. It runs on a 1.6 GHz quad-core RK3188 processor coupled with a quad-core Mali 400 GPU. The box houses 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, expandable with a SD or the almost ancient MMC card, and even by an external USB storage. It offers HDMI 1.4a for 1080p video and audio output and has support for a variety of wireless connections. Interestingly, the box is noted to be running Android 4.2.2 and has root access and support for Clockworkmod Recovery right out of the box.
But while almost any Android smartphone or tablet, given a few cables and apps, Xtreamer Multi-Console offers the ultimate convenience of the necessary ports and apps. As a gaming console, the box not only has access to popular Android games, but also other console or handheld games via emulators. For videos, of course users will have access to the dozens of apps and services available on Android, including YouTube, Netflix, and more. You can even turn the Xtreamer into a productivity box by attaching a keyboard and mouse as well. The console also supports AirPlay, Miracast, DLNA, CheapCast, and more for mirroring or streaming from smartphone or tablets to the TV.
The Xtreamer Multi-Console is currently available only from Xtreamer’s online shop. A $211 price tag is attached to the device, which doesn’t include VAT and local taxes. Xtreamer offers free shipping for the Multi-Console but notes that the box will ship from Hong Kong.
