Motorola began pushing the Moto G Android 4.4.2 update to the US market a little before Christmas. We had known other markets would follow, however a firm date wasn’t announced. Well, it looks like the European push has begun as several user reports have shown the Android 4.4.2 update has landed.
Essentially, this brings those in Europe to the most recent version of Android. If you happen to be carrying a European Moto G you have the standard two options to consider. The first is to take the causal approach, which means sitting back and waiting for the update notification to arrive on your device. If you take this route it will be a matter of following the prompts.
Otherwise, the option we suspect more will take — is to go looking for the update. For this, grab your handset and head to Settings – About phone -> System updates to try and get the process started. But keep in mind, these updates tend to rollout in stages, which means it may or may not be ready for your specific device just yet.
Regardless of the path you take, the end result will be the same — Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat with the following in terms of changes. Users upgrading will notice a new Phone dialer with easier contact lookup, new photo editing options in the Gallery, improved support for printing, and the new version of Hangouts. This is v2.0 for Hangouts, which is also available from the Play Store. The key addition for Hangouts is the SMS/MMS support and the fact the app can now be set as you default message app.
Some of the remaining items associated with this update include some Kit Kat specifics. Motorola has this broken down as being “restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, smarter power use and more tools and capabilities for better app development.”
What About Canada? Are we going to see a Moto G 4.4 here any time soon?
