Virgin Mobile has announced the HTC Desire this morning. The handset is available immediately and sporting a series of mid-range specs and a contract-free price of $279. Virgin Mobile will have the HTC Desire available for use with the Beyond Talk plans which are priced from $35 per month.
The handset sports a 4.5-inch qHD display, dual-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot and 2100 mAh battery. There will also be 4G LTE (and 3G) connectivity along with WiFi, Bluetooth and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The camera setup includes a front-facer for video chatting as well as a 5 megapixel on the back. The rear-facing camera supports 1080p HD video recording.
Other features for the Desire include HTC BoomSound with the dual front-facing speakers, BlinkFeed, HTC Zoe and Video Highlights. The important aspect to remember here, this is not the same HTC Desire that has been around, this is an updated model that sports many of the features we saw introduced with the HTC One.
Otherwise, that $35 per month Beyond Talk plan includes 300 minutes along with unlimited messages and data. There are also options to bump those voice minutes to 1200 or go unlimited. Those plans are $45 or $55 per month and both also include unlimited messages and data. The one catch with the data, only the first 2.5GB are going to be high-speed (4G).
