If you’re anxious to get your hands on Android 4.4 — or simply don’t trust that your device will be getting it — Paranoid Android has come through with a very early build of their take on Android 4.4 for you. Again, this is a really alpha build, but also a very good start.
Of course, your device will have to be rooted to flash the new ROM, so please keep that in mind with regard to warranty and insurance concerns. It’s also important to remember that this is a very alpha build of the firmware, so you won’t be getting a full-on experience. For only popping up a day after the announcement, though, it isn’t bad.
Android Police are reporting there are crashes with Calendar and Search, and it seems to be pretty buggy at the moment. The PA servers are also seeing a lot of action right now, so if you’re interested, it could be wise to find an alternate source for downloading the ROM.
Again, this is a really early build, and may not be useful as your go-to ROM. It’s also quite a bit of fussing versus the normal packaged ROM (it doesn’t flash correctly, and it’s suggested you download a recovery tool first), but a fun way to spend a Saturday, if you’re interested in checking KitKat out. You won’t get the normal Paranoid Android stuff, but it’s about as close as you’re going to get to Android 4.4 for now.
This is pure AOSP. This is not “their take”. This is pretty much the same as what Google will eventually push out, apart from some glitches.
thats why its called a port dude. its their take because they ported it across. it is still alot of hard time and effort in doing this.
It’s not a port either. They didn’t port this from another device. They made it from pure ASOP. I’m not saying it’s easy to build from ASOP or port. I’m just saying that many people will see “their take” as a PA modified ROM. Everyone is looking forward to PA 4.0 but this isn’t it.
