After an iOS upgrade, Skype has updated their Android app to version 4.4. The update most notably features a refreshed tablet interface, and better video quality. Skype will also make the update available to Kindle Fire HD and HDX users soon.
The video improvements for the Skype upgrade are impressive. With “good network conditions” (read: uber-fast WiFi) users will see resolution four times greater than before. Skype also says the update brings improved frame rates and clarity.
The update also includes a few bug fixes and tweaks, but also fixes a major issue that was dogging many users with incoming calls. Skype says the issue with incoming calls causing devices to reboot has been solved, and there are UX enhancements when switching orientation.
Accessibility improvements and audio routing fixes round out the update, with Skype beginning the rollout for Android today. Amazon users should see theirs by the end of the month, so users should keep their eyes peeled for the update.
