Andy Rubin, the chief of Android, sat down with PC Mag today for a Q&A session. Among topics of discussion, Androids rivals were mentioned. Mostly focused on Windows Phone 7, where he goes on to state that “the world doesn’t need another platform.”
Based on the screen shots he has seen he thinks that the platform is “interesting” but beyond that, he does not see the need when Android is already out there.
“Android is free and open; I think the only reason you create another platform is for political reasons”
He also goes on to note that part of the strength in the Android platform as a whole is it’s direct incorporation with Google’s services. Google has been in this business “since day zero” that is something that Microsoft just can not compare with as they re-enter the smartphone OS market.
