A newly updated version of Waze has arrived in the Google Play Store today. The update brings a few changes, but perhaps the key item on the changelog this time around is a bit of homage towards the company that purchased them. Simply put, Google is now the default search provider in the Waze app.
To continue with the theory of Waze paying some respect to Google, they have said this change will allow users to “get, better and faster results for all your searches.” Thankfully though, there are still alternative search options available. Waze users can opt to switch Google and have it replaced with Bing, Foursquare or Yelp.
Aside from changing the default search provider to Google, this update also made it quicker and easier to search. The search bar is now sitting right up top on the main map screen. This means users will be able to launch the app, tap the search bar and begin their search.
And in an effort to not get in the way of the actual navigating — the search bar will disappear with time. You will also be able to get it back with a simple tap. This update also added support for auto-complete for search results.
Shifting away from the search related changes and we also see details of what Waze is referring to as a “smoother map.” They have said this means a;
“smoother map with elements appearing based on their proximity to the user. Duplicate reports are now grouped together, allowing for more clarity, as well.”
There is also now full support for devices with a 1080p display and the almost required mention of bug fixes.
