Even as Android 4.3 Jelly Bean starts to make its way into Nexus devices and the latest smartphone models, some slightly older phones are still being updated to Android 4.2. The latest to join these is Samsung’s Galaxy Grand DUOS, which Samsung updated last week.

Announced initially for India last January, the Galaxy Grand DUOS is simply a dual SIM variant of the Galaxy Grand which, in turn, was announced in December 2012. Despite the name, the phone’s specs are not so grand but not so terrible either. Running on an unnamed 1.2 GHz dual core processor with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage, the phone’s biggest drawback is it’s 5.0-inch display, which only supports a resolution of 480×800 pixels.

The Galaxy Grand DUOS launched with Android 4.1.2 and is now being updated to 4.2.2. Among the improvements included in the update are lockscreen widgets, dedicated status bar toggles menu, daydream screensaver mode, and performance improvements. There are also some new features that have been ported from the Galaxy S4 version of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface like new widgets and homescreens.

The update for the Galaxy Grand DUOS first appeared in Russia but is probably already rolling out to other regions as well. It might take a few days to reach owners depending on the market or the carrier. As with any major Android upgrade, be sure to backup your data and keep the phone properly charged when performing the update.

please help me to rot my grand. thanks

  6. i also downloaded the 4.2.2 version on my samsung galaxy grand. i thought it would help but it did the exact oppostite. my phone lags, and i can barely access anything. however, isn’t there some time type of law against what samsung has just done? it isn’t fair to disadvantage people to this magnitude. I am deeply angered and frustrated by what has just happened. seeing as my phone is basically useless … please. if anybody else thinks we should take a stand against this. let me know. i feel like what samsung isn’t fair, and some action should be taken.

    • try factory reset? will lose your app data though, make sure you backup everything!

This is one of the reason why I don’t really look forward to major updates, sometimes after the updates the phone will have bugs.. lags… although factory reset might fix it
