It seems that some Deutsche Telekom subscribers will be getting a sweet treat soon. Owners of a Samsung Galaxy S III from the carrier will not be getting an upgrade to Android 4.2.2. Instead, they will be directly updated to the recently announced Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
The latest version of the Android OS was just announced last month so it’s no wonder that no device runs it yet. Unless you are an owner of a Nexus device or a Google Play edition of the Galaxy S4 or HTC One, as these devices are reported to be receiving Android 4.3 updates already. In the meantime, there have been news and rumors of which devices will have the update available.
One such rumor concerns how the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II will be getting Android 4.3 directly and will skip 4.2. Both devices are currently running Android 4.1. It seems that there is some credence to this rumor, at least for customers of the German carrier. In a reply made by the Telekom Team in its official forum, it confirmed that Galaxy S III devices coming from them will indeed jump to 4.3.
That is indeed good news, although it still leaves us with a lot of questions. The carrier didn’t give any estimated date for the roll out of the update and also didn’t mention whether the update will include the Galaxy Note II. It also doesn’t mean that the same will be true for the rest of the world. Although it does imply that Samsung is making it technically possible to do so, in a lot of cases it will be up to the carrier whether to push the update or not.
