Getting a slight jump on the back to school season, Samsung has officially released a “Student Edition” of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet. This is essentially a bundle pack that includes the tablet along with a desktop dock and Bluetooth keyboard. And in addition to the bit of extra hardware that ships with the tablet, Samsung also has some app related perks for those planning a purchase.
Of course, some of these go back to perks that are included with the tablet when purchased by itself. For example, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has a built-in IR blaster which will allow you to use it as a remote for your television. There is also a pre-loaded copy of Polaris Office, a Dropbox offer with 50GB of free storage for a year and three months of Hulu Plus for free (for new Hulu customers).
Perhaps more important though, Samsung touts this Student Edition bundle as being able to save you “more than $100” when these items are all purchased individually. With that in mind, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Student Edition is priced at $349.99 and available with Samsung. The Student Edition is also available with several retailers including Best Buy, Amazon, Wal-Mart, Toys ‘R’ Us, BJ’s, P.C. Richard & Son and Office Max.
Samsung has also said the white version of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is available in the US for the first time. All said and done, this sounds like a fairly decent option for those who can get by without a full notebook computer. Or for that matter, for those who want a tablet setup in addition to their current notebook or desktop setup.
Aside from the desktop dock and Bluetooth keyboard, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will bring a familiar set of specs. The tablet has Android 4.1 Jelly Bean along with a 10.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, VGA quality front-facing camera, 3 megapixel rear-facing camera, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and a weight of 1.28 pounds.
