Smartphones with impressive cameras are the hot thing lately. Samsung’s released a Galaxy Camera, and even a Galaxy S4 Zoom smartphone with a 16 megapixel huge lens mounted on back. And don’t get us started with Nokia’s Lumia and that 41 megapixel shooter. Today we’re hearing another will be entering this space, but with a completely different approach. That being clip-on accessory lens options for the photographer in you.
According to Sony Alpha Rumors the company is hard at work building “lens camera” accessories for Android smartphones. Most notably, their wide range of high-powered Xperia smartphones, but any Android will do. Hopefully.
As the report goes, two sources have both “confirmed” this is indeed the real deal from Sony and coming extremely soon. On a scale of 1-5, the chances of this hitting the market is a 6 according to the leaksters. So take that as you will. So what exactly is Sony planning? A clip-on or optional 20.2 megapixel high-end camera lens that will attach to our smartphones, sync to the display, and make our devices take truly great photos.
It won’t be a low-end accessory either. It will be the same 1-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor and f/1.8 Carl Zeiss quality lens as the recently announced Sony RX100 II pictured above. Which means this will be quite the mobile accessory, and probably not cheap.
The lens sports a built-in battery, WiFi, and NFC and your smartphone display will double as the camera viewfinder. We have a feeling WiFi or Bluetooth will be used for communication, and this is essentially their answer to these recently released camera-smartphones. Hopefully it isn’t a Sony exclusive, but we won’t be surprised if it is. Who likes the idea of optional improved lenses, instead of a bulky phone like the Galaxy S4 Zoom?

When will be the releasing of this?
