If you happen to be running CyanogenMod 10.1 there is another update ready and available. This latest, not to be confused with the one that arrived earlier in the week, will bring your handset up to version 10.1.2. That previous update dealt with the Master Key exploit whereas this one is dealing with a different but similar exploit. The short story here, CyanogenMod users will want to grab this update.

Given the last update arrived only a few days back we suspect everyone is familiar with the process, however just in case – head into the Settings and then to About phone -> CyanogenMod updates and tap the check now icon in the upper right corner. Assuming the update is available for your particular device you will be given the option to download and install 10.1.2.

According to the details coming from the CyanogenMod announcement, this update addresses Android bug 9695860. It was said that Google had already released a patch for it so as a result, CyanogenMod users get the update. This bug deals with an APK issue that was recently posted on a Chinese blog and although the process was a bit different, the end result was just like with Master Key in that a dangerous APK file could come off looking completely harmless.

Perhaps the real message here is how quickly these updates are coming. While unlocking the bootloader, rooting your handset and installing a third-party ROM is not a terribly difficult process, it does take some time and work and these frequent updates almost feel somewhat like a reward of sorts. That said, the folks at CyanogenMod have described this as being a minor update, but they are still advising everyone to update.
