The once famous and now aging Motorola DROID Bionic is getting a much needed and hotly anticipated update starting today and over the next few weeks. Last week we reported the update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean was in the works, then Friday Verizon confirmed the details. Today we’re happy to confirm it’s rolling out as we speak.
The update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean will breathe some new life into the aging DROID Bionic, and along with it comes plenty of awesome features that many will enjoy. After confirming the details Friday we knew it was only a matter of time, and we are now seeing multiple reports that the update is arriving for many Bionic users.
As you all probably know, Jelly Bean brings a smooth and more stable OS thanks to Google’s project butter. You’ll also be loving Google Now voice search (don’t forget the widget) as well as the new and severely improved expandable notifications. Pinch to close or open notifications for additional details for Google Music, Gmail and more. Oh and don’t forget the smarter keyboard with gesture typing.
The update for the Bionic to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is quite large, 98.72MB to be exact, and should be hitting devices today if you head into settings and check for updates. Alternatively for those living on the edge, you can head to this XDA thread and get the file and manually update right this moment. Verizon also confirms you should have improved data and voice connections, stronger hotspot capabilities, and improved battery life so get it while it’s hot. Enjoy!

I believe you got the update version confused with the file size. The size is 321MB. The update system version is 98.72.22.XT875.Verizon.en.US. That is all.
The new Android update eliminated the “get gradually louder” alarm clock setting – – a MAJOR disadvantage. Now, all alarms are simultaneously set to one level (programmable). The old selectable gradual increase in volume was very nice – – don’t understand why it was eliminated. Also, was hoping Android would permit multiple selectable notification sounds – – didn’t happen.
I was going to say you can(multiple selectable notification sounds), but then I remembered, I ‘m using an app that allows me to that….near failure on my part.
I hate it. They didn’t think about it or test it nearly long enough. Things like sleep mode and alarm clock disappeared and I’m not happy about that. I have to relearn how to use my phone and I don’t like that either.
On top of that I see no new features I like. Not one. The new update is a huge disappointment
Alarm clock exists. I don’t know what happened to your phone, but I have all of those features on my phone after the update. There isn’t a learning curve at all, so I don’t know what’s so different to reteach yourself about.
I hate it no longer can use the music app
