Canadian Android users on the Rogers Communications network now have a new mobile payment solution to choose from. Rogers Communications announced that it had certified suretap on its network for Android devices. With the certification on the network credential issuers such as banks, loyalty, and reward programs can now develop mobile payment solutions for Android devices on the network.

The mobile payment solution uses secure SIM card access and a NFC-enabled smartphone. Using the set up Rogers users can now use their smartphone to securely make payments using their mobile device at thousands of locations that support MasterCard PayPass and Visa payWave. Rogers certified three different Android NFC-enabled smartphones as suretap mobile payment ready.

Those Android devices include the LG Optimus G, Samsung GALAXY S III, and the Note II. These devices are certified as ready to support mobile payment applications that accept both MasterCard and Visa credit cards.

Rogers says that hundreds of thousands of suretap mobile payment ready devices are being used by Canadians right now. Suretap supports purchases of up to $50.
