While many were likely expecting news for the 10.1-inch Wikipad gaming tablet, it looks like the company has decided to shrink things down just a bit. Simply put, the 7-inch Wikipad pricing and availability details have been revealed. Of course, for those who are interested in the larger Wikipad, rest assured as that model is still noted as being “forthcoming.”
As for the 7-inch Wikipad, the reasoning in regards to the smaller display comes from Fraser Townley, President of Sales, Wikipad, Inc who said that they “wanted to get Wikipad into our community’s hands and what we found was that the smaller 7″ form factor just seemed right.” Speaking of the display, aside from measuring in at 7-inches, it will arrive as an IPS display with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a resolution of 1280 x 800.
Other specs for the 7-inch Wikipad include a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot with support for cards up to 32GB in size and what is being referred to as an “ultra-light and thin chassis.” The tablet will weigh in at 0.71 pounds and measures in at 0.42 inches thick. Remaining specs include a non-slip back, 5-point multi-touch, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera.
As far as the gaming aspect, the Wikipad will have an attachable dual-analog controller and given the processor — will have games from the Tegra Zone. Wikipad also noted PlayStation Mobile and Big Fish Games as partners. For those wondering about the version of Android, the Wikipad will be running 4.1 Jelly Bean. Specs aside, let us get back to the price and availability. The price will be $249 and the tablet is expected to arrive in the spring. So far we have yet to see anything specific in terms of a date.
