With the folks from Barnes & Noble recently launching their new NOOK HD and HD+ tablets at a competitive price point to fight against some other popular 7-inch tablets, they’ve now lowered the price on their NOOK Tablet and Color slates too. Between the Kindle Fire getting a price drop and the holidays quickly approaching the NOOK just got a bit cheaper.

On Friday Barnes & Noble announced the NOOK Tablet and NOOK Color would both be receiving a price drop just in time for the holidays. Hopefully you didn’t snatch one this weekend, because as of today the price drop is now in effect. Starting today the NOOK Tablet has been lowered to $159 and $179 for the 8GB and 16GB models.

Compare that to the $199 8GB price of the new NOOK HD, it isn’t a huge difference but for those on a budget it will certainly help out with your holiday shopping this year. Compared to the 16GB Nexus 7 for $199, you all know what we’d choose, but then again the NOOK line is pretty impressive too. Here’s what one B&N President had to say:

“Just in time for the holidays, these new lower prices make NOOK a great gift for anyone in the family,” said Jamie Iannone, President of Digital Products at Barnes & Noble. “With everything from interactive children’s books to the best collection of top 100 magazines in rich color, NOOK is perfect for anyone who likes to read.”

B&N also lowered their pricing strategy of the NOOK Color, making it the lowest priced NOOK available for just $139. With the NOOK HD+ on the horizon, and now these price drops it’s safe to say customers have plenty of choices from the Barnes & Noble family — and tablets as a whole this holiday season.
