Cricket isn’t as large as, say, Verizon. But that’s not stopping them from bringing an Android-powered device to the market. The Zio is a handset that we’ve known about for a few months now, and we know there’s a few Cricket customers out there who’ve been waiting patiently for it to officially release. Well, today you can mark on your calendar as the day it came to be.
The Zio features a 3.5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display. It has all the standard bells and whistles, like 3G connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, and integrated WiFi. There’s a 3.2MP camera on the back, with the ability to record video. You get a microSD card slot, too. Unfortunately, it’s launching with Android 1.6, but we have heard in the past that Kyocera does have every intention of upgrading the device to a newer version. No word on when that will be, though. You can pick up the Zio right now for $249.99 (there’s no contracts, remember?), and you’ll need to use their $55 data/rate plan, too. Anyone interested? Oh, and just a quick note. If you buy online, you get an instant $20 discount. So, that price will be $229.99, as the picture above suggests.
