Arduino projectss are a ton of fun, and allow for tinkering souls to delight themselves endlessly. It can get expensive, though, as shields are added. Depending not he size and scope of the project, you could end up spending a few hundred bucks. Aside from the satisfaction of doing it yourself, you might have overspent for a simple project.
A new Kickstarter is set to make all your Arduino needs available via one shield, though. By tapping into your cell phone, 1Sheeld takes all the things you might want to add onto your Arduino — speakers, GPS, whatever — and uses your Android device in lieu of adding stuff on. You have one shield to deal with, and your Android device can control the action. The 1Sheeld uses an Android app to give your project a home base for the action, and communicates via Bluetooth to your device.
If you want more from your project, 1Sheeld can be used with other shields as well. simply add on a shield for whatever you need, and 1Sheeld can accept the other without problems. So, if you want to use your Android phone for a slider switch to control lighting, but need better speakers (and another shield), there is no problem. Use your device for what you need, when you need to.
The Kickstarter has taken off, with the team meeting their goal in around 6 hours. Most of the bargains have been snapped up already, but you can still get your hands on one. The app also looks really simple and clean, and this opens up a new dimension to what was already nearly limitless. It’s also a great way to make use of an older Android device, and a low-cost way to make your pet project a reality.
