You might think you have skipped an update or two when you see that 1Password 6 is already out for Android. But they just want all the various versions of the app on different platforms to have the same number that is why they suddenly brought it up to 6. But numbering issues aside, this latest update is chockfull of both new and improved features to make the app not just functional but also nice to look at and pretty easy to use.
First up, visually, the app looks so much cleaner and more spacious, and that is largely due to the fact that they have adapted the Material Design visual guideline that Google suggests for apps. There are toolbars now in every section of the app, a navigation drawer, as well as the floating button that lets you add new URL-passwords combinations. The icons for categories and settings have also been refreshed and WiFi Sync is now vastly improved as well.
But probably the two biggest things with this update is fingerprint unlock support and 1Password for Teams. If your phone has a fingerprint sensor, like the one on Google Nexus 5X, you can now use it to “securely unlock” the app instead of inputting your password itself. And if you’re sharing passwords with family members or teams in your office, 1Password for Teams, still in beta, is now available and is probably more secure rather than you sharing a note with the other members listing down the password/passwords.
1Password 6 for Android is of course free to download and if you have it already, check if the update has rolled out to you. But to unlock its Premium features, you need to make a one-time in-app purchase.
