There are a lot of things happening in the world of tech, especially since Google I/O just finished, but there is nothing more important for some people than that of the draft candidates for the Emoji 12.0 to be released next year. If you haven’t noticed yet, emojis are a big deal and the official ones that Unicode releases every year is always a cause for debate and discussion. Now there are 104 proposed emojis that are moving up another rung in the ladder to draft candidate status.

We’re always curious as to what images will make it to our devices every year. And while we’re still waiting for this year’s emojis to come out (probably later this year), it’s never too early to see what to expect next year. Among the candidates that made it to the draft are some that relate to accessibility, like prosthetic arms and legs, a guide dog, and wheelchairs. You also get a yawning face, standing and kneeling people with various skin tones, pinched fingers, ballet shoes, white heart, a sloth, garlic, waffle, falafel, a parachute, kite, blood drop, and some various colored squares and circles.

This list of emoji candidates will be reviewed and finalized, usually around September. After they announce it, the various platforms and OEMs will be given time to adopt it to their devices and systems so we usually get a beta release by the second half of the year after it’s announced.

The Emoji 11.0 beta list is expected to be released later this year. Initially there were more than 130 emojis in this list but now it’s up to 161. We’re looking forward to having the party face, red-haired men and women, plus various superheroes and super villains once it rolls out eventually.
