The days of watching YouTube for free will eventually be over. Okay, not really. But if rumors are to be believed, the subscription service, together with a previously launched music service, will eventually be available as a bundle by the end of next month. Of course the free service will always be there, but if people think their offerings for a paid subscription is worth it, then this is a good way for YouTube and content creators to monetize from the millions of people who visit the site or the app every day.
Content owners have received an email blast from YouTube, asking them to agree to a new terms of agreement by October 22 or else their videos will not be available for public display and monetization as well. This has supported the rumors that the paid subscription, where viewers can watch videos without those pesky adds, will be launched by the end of October. Sources are saying this paid service will be bundled together with YouTube Music Key, which already launched last fall.
This paid service is not really news for those who have been following YouTube or tech news the past year. Almost a year ago, they already talked about the idea of getting monetization out of the heavy users, and those who are always annoyed by the ads that play as they watch their videos. But there never was a timeline offered, so even this rumored end of October launch can either be false or true but they decide to move it again.
Again, sources say that the bundle offering will cost users $10 a month. It’s a good price for consumers, but how will they (and content creators for that matter) really make money out of it, since music labels and other copyright owners will of course be getting a huge chunk of that pie. Let’s wait and see by the end of October if all these rumors are true.
