If you’ve always wanted to have a group call with your friends, but using a video conference app seems to be too formal or too complicated when all you have to do is just have the ability to have a call with a large number of people, now you can use messaging apps for that. WeChat’s latest update brings you this new thing you can do as a group, aside from the group messages which you probably use a lot already if you have the app.
But for those times when you’d rather talk to each other (and if you can’t do it in person) as a group, the new update to WeChat lets you do just that. You can choose to do either the Video Group chat option which is more fun of course, but if bandwidth is the issue, then you can also just turn the video off and use the audio call only. You can add up to 9 other people on the call, and each one you invite can have the option to accept or decline the call.
Another new feature for the app is Group Notices, where you can now post messages or notices to your group, kind of like a status message. We’re not yet sure how this will be different from a normal group message, but based on the description, it’s more like an announcement rather than a message that everyone has to respond to. It will ensure that everyone who’s a member of the group will receive the memo.
You can check if the update has rolled out to your app by checking the WeChat Google Play page.
